Special Kind of Improvisational Theater (SKIT™) is an evidence-informed program that uses adapted improvisational theater techniques to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities develop social and communication skills. Our curriculum has been tested and refined to produce measurable outcomes, making it ideal for nonprofits, schools, and organizations seeking proven programming.
We offer three flexible, outcome-driven curricula:
SKIT Developing – Foundational social and communication skills
SKIT Exploring – Expanding skills with more advanced activities
SKIT Workplace – Targeted skills for professional and workplace settings
Each curriculum includes:
Curriculum Guide – Step-by-step instructions and activity structure
Lesson Plans – Ready-to-use plans with strategies for group management
Materials – Visual supports, handouts, and activity notes
All programs are adaptable for any group size, age range, or skill level. Activities can be filtered by difficulty (Simple, Standard, Challenging) or skill area (interpersonal, active listening, problem-solving, and more). SKIT Developing also includes adaptations for non-verbal participants or those with limited language skills.
SKIT™ is a trademarked program. Organizations interested in implementing SKIT™ curricula can purchase a license to access all materials and guides. Licensing ensures proper use, program fidelity, and continued support.
